Audition Downloads

Audition materials for THE PRESENT IS THE FUTURE are now available.  The files are on Google Drive and organized by role.  Please download ALL files within the folder for the character/role that your child is interested in.

Roles and requirements of each role:

ACTING ROLES

BUTLER:  older male or female student; a character role; accent encouraged.  No solo singing or dancing.
SHAWN/SHAWNA: older male or female student.  The "show-off", arrogant and popular kid in class. No solo singing or dancing.
ANGELA: older female student; over-the-top cheerleader type who is animated and energetic. Good coordination required, as will be leading cheers.
LEONARD: The class "loner" who struggles to make friends.  Sweet natured and kind, but shy. No solo singing or dancing.
IRENE: Insecure, quiet and timid student who, like Leonard, struggles to make friends.  No solo singing or dancing.
HEROLD/HERALD: male or female student; the class "scaredy cat"/hypochondriac.  No solo singing or dancing.
CHRISTIAN/CHRISTINA: male or female older student; an angry loner who is very cynical.  Has a change of heart in the plot.  No solo singing or dancing, but has a short monologue over music which is timed to the music.
STEPHANIE: The smartest girl in school, well spoken and informed. No solo singing or dancing.
KINGS: male or female students; articulate and authoritative.   Ideally, each will sing a solo verse in "The Hope of the Future."  No dancing required.
STABLE CHILD: male or female student who is an engaging storyteller, very expressive and articulate. No solo singing or dancing.
SHEPHERDS: male or female students, very expressive.  A great part for a younger student.  No solo singing or dancing.
PREACHER ANGEL: male or female student; a character role in the style of an evangelical preacher; over the top.
ROMAN SOLDIER: a male student due to costuming; a great part for a younger student with a commanding, strong voice.  No solo singing or dancing.

NON-SPEAKING ROLES (No audition materials to download)
MARY:  female non-speaking role; A great part for a younger student.  No solo singing or dancing.
JOSEPH: male non-speaking role; A great part for a younger student.  No solo singing or dancing.
ANGELS: male or female non-speaking roles. A great part for a younger student.  No solo singing.

DANCING ROLES (No audition materials to download)
DANCERS:  male or female; a great part for any aged student. No solo acting or singing.  Will be required to attend weekly dance rehearsals after school.  Routines will be "Mysterious Mystery" and "What a Friend's Supposed to Be."

SOLO SINGING ROLE(S)
KINGS/HOPE OF THE FUTURE SOLOISTS: (Ideally sung by the Kings, but Mrs. B will have a dedicated soloist or soloists if the Kings are cast as acting-only roles, based on audition results.) Please download the materials for the KINGS.

STAGE CREW ROLES (No audition materials to download)
STAGE MANAGER:  Open to 6th graders only -- Candidates should be extremely responsible and mature, excellent at taking notes, and show problem solving skills and leadership.  As the head of the stage crew team, this candidate is Mrs. B's eyes, ears, and voice backstage.  Must be able to delegate tasks  to other crew, but still willing to be a team player to get the "job done."  Stage crew attends an average of 4 lunchtime rehearsals each week starting in November.
PROPS MANAGER:  Open to 6th graders only -- Candidates should be extremely responsible and mature, excellent at taking notes, and show problem solving skills and leadership.  Responsible for the care and keeping of all props used by actors.  Stage crew attends an average of 4 lunchtime rehearsals each week starting in November.
LIGHTING/AV MANAGER:  Open to 6th graders only -- Candidates should be extremely responsible and mature, excellent at taking notes, and show problem solving skills and leadership.  Responsible for specific lighting tasks and operating AV for projection.  Stage crew attends an average of 4 lunchtime rehearsals each week starting in November.
CURTAIN MANAGER (if needed):  Open to 6th graders only -- Candidates should be extremely responsible and mature, excellent at taking notes, and show problem solving skills and leadership.  Responsible for the opening and closing of the curtain for scene changes as well as other tasks as needed.  Stage crew attends an average of 4 lunchtime rehearsals each week starting in November.
