Audition Materials for A Christmas Carol (2019)

Audition materials for A CHRISTMAS CAROL are now available.  The files are on Google Drive and organized by role.  Please download ALL files within the folder for the character/role that you/r child is interested in.    Please also take a look at the audition scoring sheet used in the audition process.

Roles and requirements of each role:


The Shepard Family:


KEVIN - can be male or female; Ebaneezer Scrooge character.  Earns summer money but won’t share any of it for his school’s outreach project. Strong actor who can portray a change of heart. Many lines to memorize; role meant for an older student. No solo singing.


LAUREN - can be male or female; younger sibling of the Kevin character.  A little bit of a show off and sassy, likes to give siblings a hard time. Strong actor; can be a younger student.No solo singing.


JONATHAN - can be male or female; youngest sibling of the Kevin character.  Strong actor; can be a younger student who can play kindergarten age. No solo singing.


MOM - for an older female student; Nurturing mother who tries to guide Kevin into making better choices.  Strong actor who can play an adult. No solo singing.


School Choir Characters:


CHOIR DIRECTOR - for an older male or female student; Music teacher who directs the school choir. This actor will direct the 4, 5, 6th grade choir in “A Christmas Carol” medley song.  Strong actor who can play an adult and is comfortable “directing” a song in the show! No solo singing.


ISAAC -  can be male or female; acts as the treasurer of the choir and their outreach collection. Character actor for a student of any age. No solo singing.


The Angels: ALL 4 ANGELS WILL SING IN A QUARTET FOR "WE ARE THE ANGELS". **Please download files from THIS FOLDER as well as the named angel part you are interested in below.**

CAROL - the head angel of the group of angels who possibly sings a solo in “Remember Jesus” song. Strong actor with many lines to memorize; role meant for an older student. Ideally sings a solo; but the solo is optional.


PEGGY SUE - the angel of the past who sings the solo in “You Gotta Have Hope.” She is from the ‘50s and will wear a poodle skirt.  Character actress with tons of spunk. Triple threat: dances, acts, sings a solo.


VAL - the angel of the present who sings the solo in “Every Day is a Gift from God.”  She is from the present and the embodiment of a Valley girl in speech and dress. Character actress with lots of personality. Sings a solo; "moves well" but does not have a "choreographed" dance number.


TOMARA - the angel of the future who sings the solo in “Hallelujah to the Lamb.”  She is from the future and needs to be portrayed as older, wiser, and graceful. Character actress with presence. Sings a solo.



Real World Characters:


COMPANY EXECUTIVE - the adult business person who surprises Kevin at the end of the show awarding him/her with an impressive gift.  Strong actor who can play an adult.  Note that the name of the exec and the name of the company they work for will be updated.


DANCE: Dance parts are available for both boys and girls as our 50's dancers in "Gotta Have Hope". Dancers will lead the hand jive and learn the twist… Mrs. Belloni is choreographing this year.  A dance audition will be held at lunch recess one day in October, date TBD. 

NON SPEAKING ROLES: 
(No audition materials to download; great for students of ALL ages. No "lines to memorize.")

STAGE CREW ROLES (No audition materials to download)
    STAGE MANAGER:  Open to 6th graders only -- Candidates should be extremely responsible and mature, excellent at taking notes, and show problem solving skills and leadership.  As the head of the stage crew team, this candidate is Mrs. B's eyes, ears, and voice backstage.  Must be able to delegate tasks  to other crew, but still willing to be a team player to get the "job done."  Stage crew attends an average of 4 lunchtime rehearsals each week starting in November.
    PROPS MANAGER:  Open to 6th graders only -- Candidates should be extremely responsible and mature, excellent at taking notes, and show problem solving skills and leadership.  Responsible for the care and keeping of all props used by actors.  Stage crew attends an average of 4 lunchtime rehearsals each week starting in November.
    LIGHTING/AV MANAGER:  Open to 6th graders only -- Candidates should be extremely responsible and mature, excellent at taking notes, and show problem solving skills and leadership.  Responsible for specific lighting tasks and operating AV for projection.  Stage crew attends an average of 4 lunchtime rehearsals each week starting in November.
    CURTAIN MANAGER (if needed):  Open to 6th graders only -- Candidates should be extremely responsible and mature, excellent at taking notes, and show problem solving skills and leadership.  Responsible for the opening and closing of the curtain for scene changes as well as other tasks as needed.  Stage crew attends an average of 4 lunchtime rehearsals each week starting in November.
